Trigger Finger Release Exercises After Surgery: Follow Along
In this video I’m sharing 6 beginner trigger finger release exercises to help decrease your finger stiffness and improve your overall finger range of motion after your hand surgery.
These exercises can be a great place to start if you were not given any direction, or told to just make a fist. But of course, quick disclaimer, this video is not a substitute for medical advice so always ask your doctor, or your Certified hand therapist with questions about your condition.
Keep in mind, it's not uncommon to have finger stiffness for several weeks, even months, after a hand surgery so make it a habit to do these exercises 2-3 times a day until they become easy.

    I had bilateral CTS and had CTR surgeries in March and May. It was a three and five month wait respectively after symptom onset and now I have tight hand in the morning with tennis elbow and shoulder pain. Will this go away? I'm going to try these but my physical therapist didn't even give me these exercises

    Thank you for making this video. When you say you want your middle finger "to resist the pressure," do you mean you try to pull the finger toward you while you are stretching the tip down with your other hand? Just trying to understand. thank you!

    I fell & broke my little finger and surgery I February 24 then PT. My finger looks better but is still swollen & the tip is bent. My PT is completed so I keep doing my exercises. Maybe I’m overdoing it but my fan causes it my turtle finger.

    It’s been 9 days since my carpel tunnel release surgery and I have to stay bandaged until I go back on day 14. My hand feels pretty good. I just can’t open a jar or mix cookie batter, etc., but I can’t wait to have these bandages off and not have to deal with keeping them dry! I miss the simple things like washing my face with two hands.

    I have a volar plate on my radius, and can't get anywhere near my normal extension 7 months after surgery, could removing the plate make the difference or does that rarely make a difference from your experience, since surgeons don't like to remove

    I have mallet finger on both hands so I taped nitrile gloves around my wrists for showering. Helped to keep the water out, especially when wearing my foam splints.

    Good suggestions. You might want to add one more step to your interlocking finger pull -- you can also do that step by interlocking your thumbs and having them pull against each other. Also, add reps for each step and how often the exercises should be done.

    Bless you, my 86 year old Mum broke hers and the surgeon is thrilled how well it has healed. Clearly her pain will last a while longer. For her age she has an incredible capacity to heal - so hopefully it won't be too long before she is pain free.

    This is very informative. Got a mallet injury on my right ring finger from sports 3 days ago. Got some xrays and established it is a tendonous mallet. Everything you said here explains why my finger is splinted the way it is. Slight hyper extension on DIP and slight flextion on PIP. Good content! Your videos will be my guide for the next 6-8 weeks.     I searched this up because I knew the slowest healing bone in the body was in the wrist, but couldn't remember which one. I got super worried since I currently have a splint for another wrist bone (the trapezium) which I broke about 2 weeks ago. I was so glad to hear that it wasn't the slowest healing bone.😅

    Hello Michelle. You probably already know what I’m about to tell you. I just wanted to say that I stopped taking over NAC over a year ago. I’ve restarted taking NAC again, and I can’t believe the relief it’s brought to my base thumb arthritis. It feels 80% better after taking NAC.👍🏻
